We want to just jump right in and tell you absolutely every detail about this Halloween wedding (or, Hallowedding) at Terrain Gardens and Events at Styers.
But first, we’d be remiss if we failed to mention that we met Caitlin and Josh in 2018!! Steve and I used to table some wedding expos now and again and we met these two at one in Peddler’s Village. We just still can’t believe this all started in 2018. In 2019 we shot their October engagement session back at Peddler’s. They were ahead of the game planning for their intended year, 2020. I think you know what happened. C + J still tied the knot officially in 2020 but postponed the bigger wedding day to Halloween 2021. Fast forward, this could not have worked out more perfectly. These two are super into Halloween and no detail was left unturned.
So back to the wedding at Terrain, which is in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania. You might be familiar with Terrain Cafe and their shops/gardens (their Instagram game is everything). And it definitely lives up to the hype. The food is absolutely delicious, the atmosphere is beautifully curated and in the fall, there are pumpkins everywhere! Firepits are smoking and the smell of the firewood fills the air.
The bride’s dress was Hayley Paige and main bridesmaid by her side wore BHLDN. The groom’s suit was by Studio Suits and the amazing flower girl dresses were by Bentley & Lace. But both Caitlin and Josh were decked out in so many amazing details, more credits are at the very end of this post.
Some noteworthy moments throughout the day included a bagpiper who played and led the entrance down the aisle for the bride. The father of the bride also joined in later and played the bagpipes, as well. Caitlin requested some Halloween vibes for photos so later, just before sunset, we posed them out back for a smoke bomb jack o’lantern photo.
It’s also worth mentioning that we had a great time working with the bride’s cousin Kevin of Wavelight Studio who did the videography! (His daughters were also the adorable flower girls!)
“Our theme for the Wedding is ‘Til Death Do Us Part’, in a Frankenstein meets his bride Hallo-wedding way. Our color scheme includes moody colors such as burgundy, red, natural greens, dusty blue/gray, gold, and black.
Our reception décor consists of long farm tables with burgundy gauzy table runners, placed greenery, gold taper candle holders with black candles and skeleton heads and faux crows. The table numbers will be horror film settings, such as Haddonfield (Halloween), Derry (IT), The Overlook (The Shining), etc., on hand-dyed grey and white cardstock. Each place setting will have a small gold skeleton hand holding a matching hand-dyed grey place card.
At our sweetheart table, we’ll have skeleton-hand champagne flutes and a large skeleton head vase to hold my bouquet. We are also going to have some faux crows hanging from the ceiling hooks with invisible wire to add to the spooky vibe. Our wedding cake is also going to have a dark edge.
The cake artist has planned peeling crackled black fondant with gold edging, gold aging/antiquing on the cracked fondant, center of marbled plum, black, white, and grey fondant (smoky, spooky look, gold veining), with long black drips coming out from flowers and fruit & fresh flowers placed as needed.
We are also planning to have a dry ice ‘purple people eater’ Her signature cocktail and a ‘haunted old fashioned’ His signature drink with a “Pick your Poison” sign at the bar. Wedding stationary is skeleton hand decorated black and white.
Terrain has these sort of grand bookshelves, so we are planning to put memorial pictures of family that can’t be with us on one of the bookshelves and maybe pictures of us on the other set of bookshelves. We took our engagement photos and turned them into a guest book, that will have its own table along with some white pumpkins.”
“In terms of what folks are wearing, our families are Scottish, so Josh’s side will be wearing his tartan (Guthrie Weathered) and my side will be wearing ours (Fraser Hunting Modern). MOB is wearing navy, MOG is wearing black, matron of honor is wearing dusty blue/gray color with blush and metallic beading/flowers around waistband, flower girls are wearing blush and burgundy butterfly dresses and will be carrying little jack’o’lantern baskets as their flower baskets, and ring boys wearing kilts. Bride is wearing a Hayley Paige a-line ball gown with witchy sleeves, carrying an over-sized textural bouquet with ribbon tails and a dark lip. Groom is planning to wear greyish blue suit with brown leather accents, tartan vest, brown belt and shoes.”
