Mickaylia and Kurt scheduled their engagement session for August so we all knew we needed to go somewhere that they could dip into the water. We suggested the trail that leads to Tillman’s Ravine at Stokes State Forest in Sandyston Township, New Jersey. We hiked around for a bit first and our favorite part of this spot, aside from the ravine, are the incredibly tall trees.
Steve and I first explored this place during my covid birthday, which was actually August one year prior! We had the chance to scope it out and it was the best way to spend an isolated birthday. Just the two of us and our dog. We dipped in the ravine afterward to cool off and then got subs for lunch at Firehouse Bagel Co. in Branchville, NJ. If you’ve never been and you’re hiking in this area – it’s a MUST if you’re hungry afterward!
But back to Stokes and this couple! Since it’s not a super intense hike, we were able to really get to know Mickaylia and Kurt while hiking around. We discovered we had a lot in common and it was so fun just hanging out and talking. Guys, this is how we make friends in adulthood – lol! But seriously it’s really nice to have the opportunity to get to know a couple’s life and backstory before their big day.
By the end of the session, they were hot enough to hop into the ravine! It’s a really romantic and private secret spot. The perfect place for more intimate portraits.
“We met on Twitter in 2014! Kurt was living in Palmdale, CA and I was in Bayonne, NJ. I got on a plane and flew to him after knowing each other online for about two months! The rest is history. We haven’t left each other’s side since.”
We’ll be blogging their Wallenpaupack Creek Farm wedding soon, which took place last October so stay tuned!
