Emily & Sam were living in California, but getting married in Philadelphia so they could celebrate with all their friends & family from home. They reached out to us and told us all about their wedding plans at Frankford Hall. We were immediately stoked. We’ve spent a lot of time in Philly and especially love the Old City & Fishtown areas. Frankford Hall isn’t your conventional wedding venue. This was going to be a down to earth wedding at a popular open-air German biergarten in Fishtown Philadelphia, PA. They wanted a majority of their portraits to take place all around different spots in Philadelphia including prep at Wm. Mulherin Sons, Elfreth’s Alley, Race Street Pier, South Broad Street/ City Hall and the steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. We were more than excited to document their awesome ideas for their wedding day.
This couple envisioned their wedding to be fun and laid back, dressed-up only by the flowers and lighting. It was important to them that their photos felt real and natural, showcasing the inherent charm of Philadelphia, Frankford Hall and the overall feel of the city. Exposed brick, a city-vibe, fire pits and cornhole would all be incorporated, but with some traditional aspects sprinkled in. The color scheme was sage & succulent green and rose/light pink. Mason jars and old beer bottles were scattered on cocktail tables, burlap on the wooden dinner tables, with some cute string lights over the ceremony. They wanted to have their first look and take pictures before the wedding so they could be present and enjoy every moment with their friends and family! (We always think this is an excellent idea!) Food included pretzels instead of bread (yes, please), passed hors d’ouevres, with a buffet style dinner and then a late night cheesesteak. (I mean seriously, you had us at pretzels, but kept us at cheesesteak).
After the bridesmaids were ready we took the trolley to the groom’s prep location – Wm. Mulherin’s Son Hotel and had the first look outside along the exterior front of the building. From there we road around the city in the trolley stopping and taking photos at all the spots. It was a total blast.
The intimate ceremony at Frankford Hall was perfect, and the rest of the night was SO much fun. You can’t have a wedding at biergarten without getting a little rowdy. It was amazing.
We may need this wallpaper for ourselves!
We are 100% obsessed with this silicone men’s wedding band from Qalo. Comfortable & totally perfect for the active-outdoorsy type. (Pst, they have women’s, too!)
First stop: Elfreth’s Alley!
Next stop: Race Street Pier.
Third: Broad Street / City Hall. The cars were literally whipping passed us!
Finally, this obviously HAD to be done. All the boys wanted to do was run up the Rocky Steps (aka the Philadelphia Museum of Art).
Back to Frankford Hall for ceremony & reception!
When you have a wedding at a biergarten, you get rowdy.
