Alli and Chris finally had their David’s Country Inn wedding after the LONGEST wait! They were one of our twice postponed couples, but lucky for them they legally signed their papers in 2019 long before their big day. The paper-signing ceremony even took place before anyone knew how bad the pandemic would hit. So these two got to be secretly married for a little while, but then that little while turned into a long while.

Absolutely determined to still have their big day, the dream finally came to fruition in 2021! The color scheme included “peacock” (deep teal), dusty sage, blush and gold. The bride’s dress was Sottero and Midgley, bridesmaid dresses were Azazie and the groom’s suit was from Generation Tux.

Their Story

“Dec 17, 2020: One year ago today, after being engaged for over 13 months, and being just under 5 months shy of what we had planned to be our wedding day, Chris and I decided to do our paperwork a little early. We signed the papers and took a couple photos in the living room of my friend’s father, who is a judge. We never expected to tell anyone about it, let alone remember or celebrate the date; there were no rings or vows exchanged. I did not become “Mrs. Puglise” that day. We looked at it like turning in the homework early to the teacher (and we got some extra credit—it turns out we both enjoyed knowing that Chris had health insurance during a pandemic).

I still joke that the paperwork vs. the vows are our “separation of church and state.” Looking back on the day our marriage legally began after how the past year has gone, I have no doubt that this was the right decision. We have faced many challenges together this past year.

One of the things that got me through 2020 was knowing every day that I have the most supportive partner standing by my side. I am looking forward to FINALLY getting to marry you properly in 2021, Chris, but I am sure that when I sit down to write my vows I will be writing something different than I would have been if our plans had gone as intended. Thank you for being my “secret husband” this year. I love you, Chris!”

About the Couple

“Chris and Alli met through their mutual friend Kim, who ambushed them separately and insisted they go on a date. Since then, they have played countless board games, attended lots of Devils games, and collectively consumed an impressive amount of beer. Chris often holds Alli’s things while she runs around outside, but he took her by surprise at the New York City Marathon when he revealed that he had been holding her engagement ring the whole time!”
