Nicole and Doug’s Valley Regency November wedding in Clifton, New Jersey was one of the first cooler days of the Fall and beckoned Winter. These two and their bridal party powered through the chilly temps as we made a pitstop at Kip’s Castle in Verona, NJ for photos!
“Our theme is a mix of an elegant and romantic style. The color scheme involves cinnamon rose, greenery, burgundy, and rust colors. The vibe is going to be personal to us, a lot of incorporation of family photos, our dog Kallie (a black lab mix) and our alma mater West Virginia University. Cocktail hour includes a jazz trio and the reception has our favorite DJ who will make it a real party. One of our biggest photo requests is a bridal party picture on the moodier side with everyone in different poses, serious (possibly in the bridal suite at the venue). We’ve seen it done and it looks very cool with a vintage feel.”
These two loved informal and candid photos, but we loved that they wanted to do one editorial Vogue-style shot with the entire bridal party in the downstairs suite. And it was a nice opportunity to continue taking photos indoors and escape the cold!
The bride’s dress was Enzoani from Jaehee Bridal and the bridesmaid dresses were from Revelry in a cinnamon rose color that was absolutely lovely! The groom’s tuxedo was from Tuxedo Park Formal Wear in Red Bank, NJ.
Nicole and Doug chose Valley Regency for it’s renovated and modern feel, as well as its proximity to their respective families. It feels clean, elegant, classic and polished without being “too jersey.” To detract from the overt ballroom feel, Nicole envisioned lots of greenery and florals. She also prefers soft, romantic lighting. And NO colored uplighting!! 😉
Doug prepped at a nearby hotel, while Nicole prepped at her parents’ home. The ceremony was held at St. Catherine of Siena RC Church in Cedar Grove, NJ. Keeping things more traditional, there was not a first look. The bride and groom saw each other for the first time when Nicole came down the aisle. Promptly after the ceremony, following a brief receiving line and a grand exit, we whisked the bridal party to nearby Kip’s Castle for photos. This is a great, local option near Valley Regency since they don’t have huge grounds onsite. Although, their updated courtyard is lovely! As sunset approached, we grabbed the last golden hour photos of Nicole and Doug alone before heading back to the venue.
There was a neon sign at the photo booth that quoted Country Roads and the night could not end without the DJ playing that song. These two met at West Virginia University and it was imperative that they also took a photo on the dance floor with their old college friends holding the “WVU” flag.
A unique choice by the end of the night was a “last dance” by the couple in the middle of the dance floor. We’ve seen plenty of first dances as husband and wife, but very rarely a last dance with just the two of them! It was so sweet. The night finished with a sparkler send-off and outside guests could grab a hot dog from Windmill food truck!
“Doug and I met our Freshman year of college while attending West Virginia University. We were living on the same floor in the dorm. We are BIG WVU fans and anticipate “Country Roads” will be played more than once at the reception ????. We are excited to finally be married after almost 9 years together. Our reception should be a large dancing crowd.”
