Alma & Victor’s summer wedding at Rock Island Lake Club was everything a July wedding should be. Guests gathered lakeside to celebrate the happy couple after an intimate church ceremony. When a couple exudes positive energy, they receive positive energy back. And there was so much love surrounding this bride and groom. Alma has THE most infectious laugh, if she’s laughing then we’re all laughing.
The color scheme consisted of blush-tone pinks and greens. Rock Island Lake Club has an inherent simplistic atmosphere that has all the components of a relaxing, lakeside vibe. With just the right amount of rustic elements, the space feels polished, clean and modern. The cross-back wooden chairs and farm tables give it a home-y feel. Allowing the natural beauty to shine through with just some garland greenery and flowers in small, clear vases was truly all this reception space needed.
At Rock Island Lake Club, they generally hold cocktail hour for an hour and a half. (This is a great idea and something we’ll be doing at our own wedding!) Guests can mingle lakeside and the bride and groom actually have time to eat and chat. The sun was setting over the lake by the end of cocktail and we had some misty late-day summer sunlight. Most importantly, this was a nice opportunity for the couple to take group shots with their guests during the last 20 minutes of cocktail near the lake. This way, they didn’t have to interrupt dancing at reception to take more photos.
The most noteworthy part of the reception was towards the end, Alma was whisked away and “kidnapped” from reception. Victor then had to win his bride back from the guests by begging them for money. It was an absolute riot, this was actually the first time we had seen the Hungarian “Bride for sale” wedding tradition. Eventually, Victor earnestly won his bride back and Alma returned to his arms in an outfit change! This was distinctive to their day and the guests had so much fun with it.
Overall, this was one of the most memorable weddings of last summer, and we’ve since then stayed in touch with Alma and Victor. We can honestly say they’ve become good friends and we are so thankful for our job that we get to be a part of someone’s wedding day and make lasting friendships afterward!
